What is the HOP Garden?

It's an organic allotment project in High Spen, near Rowlands Gill in Tyne and Wear.

The aim is to create a welcoming space where the community can come to chat, grow and socialise.

We began in November 2006 with an overgrown plot full of weeds and rubbish - including a three piece suite and a trailer - and by March the beds were in, paths laid and the big weed began.

We meet every Thursday (and often Friday too) from 10am at 1 The Crescent Allotments (off Bute Road South) - minutes from the stop for the No. 31, 47 and R7 bus routes and the No. 10/11 stops just a little further up the road. We're also often on site at weekends and after work during the week in the summer.
